  • Spring classes run February 15 - May 15
  • Boats are provided for all introductory level classes.  Boat ownership needed for Race Teams.

  • All sailors must wear a US Coast Guard approved life-jacket
  • Safety boat is present for all sessions
  • Cancellation Policy: $100 service charge for cancellation 2 weeks prior to first date of class. No refunds within 2 weeks of class start date.  Those not removed from the wait list due to oversubscription will be refunded class fee minus service charge.
  • Contact PYSF Treasurer, Karen Werner about Scholarships that are available and help PYSF achieve its mission to be a community sailing group that teaches sailing regardless of ability to pay.

Learn the basics of sailing while developing skills to prepare for sailing with others at PYSF and in the Bay Area. Although no experience is necessary, sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Ages 8-11. (12 students max). $500Sat 10am-2pm

Opti Intro to Racing


For sailors with less than a year sailing in Optimists (or equivalent), who understand the basics of sailing and want an intro to racing skills. 
Ages 8+.  (12 students max per class).

Those that are ready will be invited to join the Opti Race Team for the remainder of the Spring Season.



Opti Race Team



For sailors who have completed Opti Intro to Racing or have experience racing Optimists and seek to refine racing skills in a single handed boat in a class of no more than 12. Boat ownership is mandatory.  Charters available.  Storage included in class fee.
Ages 8 -13.

FJ Intermediate

For sailors who have outgrown the Optimist and want to learn how to race a double handed boat in preparation for High School racing at an introductory pace. 
Ages 11-13. (12 students max).

420 Intermediate 


For sailors who want to broaden their sailing knowledge to include sailing with a spinnaker and trapeze. Completion of FJ Intermediate (or equivalent) required.

For sailors who want to continue junior racing outside of the High School Racing program by sailing Lasers and C420's with spinnakers and trapezes.

High School Race TeamFor 8th-12th graders who want to compete for their schools at regattas.. High school teams are made up of 4 or more students from the same school and your school does not need to be on the PYSF team list for sailors to join.
